This calculator can be used to work out the check digit for your GTINs and bar codes. Select the symbology that corresponds to the length of the GTIN and bar code that is required and then type in the digits of the code. When sufficient digits have been entered, the resulting code string with the calculated check digit will be displayed.

The last digit of the GS1 Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is a check digit that is used as a check on the other digits. This digit is also encoded as the last digit in the consumer unit or outer case bar code and bar code scanners will check that this digit is correct for the digits that it has found when scanning and decoding the bar code.
